In the US, there is a national licensure test (one single test) for which
each state sets acceptible pass scores (different pass thresholds). (Note:
each testing cycle the acceptable scores established by each state are
slightly different because the threshold is established based on standard
deviations from the mean score of all the individuals who took the test that
cycle).
So, if you take the test, pass by Pennsyvania's standards, apply and then
receive a license to practice in Pennsylvania, and you then decide you want
to practice in another state, you can certainly petition another other state
to grant reciprosity for your licensure. As long as your test score meets or
exceeds the standards of the new state, you are not required to retake the
test. (Caveat: at one time, New York and one other state had an oral exam
which you had to pass in excess of the written. I am uncertain if this is
still true.)
Next point: I would have said in the past that school credentials were a
very minor (if at all) issue in employment. In the current marketplace in
the US, I suppose every little bit helps. One big point: if you intend to
practice in the states, I would try and do a clinical rotation at a facility
which might be an employment option. Clinical rotations are a good testing
ground for both sides (facility and student) and an individual who had a
successful internship at a facility might receive a
"shift-to-the-top-of-the-pile-of-resumes" when seeking employement.
I'm not addressing any issues of work visas etc as I am unfamiliar with the
same.
