The Department of Physical Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University
invites applications for the position of Chair. The Department was
established in 1945 and has a long history of excellence in teaching and
research. This position offers applicants the opportunity to continue
this long tradition and to create new directions for a department that
has been consistently recognized for excellence in many areas. The
Department is located in the School of Allied Health Professions on a
large urban medical campus.
Students are currently enrolled in one of several programs offered in
the Department. The entry level Master of Science program admits 54
students per year and plans are underway to convert to a DPT. The
Department also offers a post-professional Master of Science degree and
participates in three Ph.D. programs. The faculty is comprised of basic
scientists, applied researchers and clinicians along with many master
clinicians from the community.
The Chair will be expected to provide leadership in teaching,
scholarship and practice in addition to guiding the fiscal management of
the department. The Chair will bring continued success in scholarship
and external research funding.
Candidates will have a Ph.D., be eligible for licensure as a Physical
Therapist in Virginia, a minimum of seven years full time professional
experience in physical therapy and five years of full-time faculty
experience. The candidate will have held a full-time faculty position in
physical therapy and possess interpersonal skills necessary to support
and encourage faculty development and collegiality. Review of
