There was a tide powered slitting mill Bidston on the Wirral see B.G. Awty's
article on the iron industry in Transactions of Hist Soc. of Lancs. and
Ches. 1957, 108
There were a number of the Thames. See Rex Wailes, 'Tide Mills in England
and Wales' Edgar Allen News36 (1957), 160-62 184-86; 37 (1958), 205-07
230-34; E.M. Gardner, 'The three mills, Bromley by Bow' Edgar Allen News
39 (1960), 135-37 158ff. I think one or both of these may have been
reprinted from a publication of Soc. for Preservation of Ancient Buildings,
though they may have been revised for publication in Edgar Allen News.
Edgar Allen News was a periodical relating principally to the steel industry
and published in Sheffield. Sheffield Central Library have a set.

PS I may have a little more information in Bidston if this is of interest.
