ALT-C 2000, The seventh international conference of the
Association for Learning Technology will examine the key roles of
learning technology practice, policy and partnership as colleges and
universities respond to the changing and challenging educational
environment of the 21st century.
Conference Themes
The conference will feature the three themes of practice, policy and
partnership. Within this framework a number of possible areas of
interest are suggested below:
* Practice: creative approaches to using learning technology (LT),
comparison of media, pedagogical and interface design,
accessibility, student attitudes and experience of LT, assessment,
enabling novel pedagogies (eg group work or problem-based-
learning), supporting flexible and off-campus learning, evaluation of
LT effectiveness, web-based multimedia, online interactivity,
experience of using managed learning environments and
frameworks.
* Policy: role of technology in institutional teaching and learning
strategies, management of organisational change, diffusion of
innovation, ensuring quality, staff training, costing models, systems
and infrastructure planning, project management and maintenance
strategies, institutional application of learning environments, issues
of change from traditional to distance and flexible delivery modes.
* Partnership: the potential (and problems) of LT development via:
multi-institutional or local consortia, international partnership,
cross-sector collaboration (eg HE/FE/Schools) and partnerships
with commercial associates, professional bodies and others.
Types of session
- Paper sessions (15-20 minutes presentation followed by panel
discussion)
Paper proposals should report on innovative, evaluated practice,
policy initiatives which have led to institutional change, or examples
of successful co-operative partnerships which have demonstrably
benefited the participants.
- Interactive presentations (15 minutes rolling
demonstration/presentation)
Poster or 'Mall' format with parallel presentations repeated twice
over an hour. Suitable for interactive demonstrations or small-group
presentations of work in progress.
- Discussions (30-60 minutes)
Informal debate of conference-related topics. Suggestions for
innovative sessions and/or longer panel sessions are welcome.
Please indicate proposed timing and format clearly in submission.
All accepted abstracts will be published on the web site before the
conference and included in the handbook, on the condition that
delegates register for the conference. Authors will also be
encouraged to submit their PowerPoint presentations and/or links
to their own web sites. These will be published as web pages and
made available to registered delegates at the time of the
conference. Selected papers resulting from the paper sessions
and interactive presentations will be published in ALT' s peer-
reviewed journal, ALT-J.
