Having just joined the list, I thought I should introduce
myself briefly. My background is interdisciplinary, with
strong roots in European ethnology and political economy.
Empirical research interests include endogenous regional
development (esp. the link between culture and economy),
and culture contact/conflict in border regions. Theoretical
interests include, again, the link between culture and
economy. Geographically, I am primarily interested in the
Northern Italian provinces that have a land border with
another state. Although I have been in European studies
for some time, with the main emphasis on Irish, British
and German studies, I am relatively new to Italian studies,
and while my Italian is improving speedily I am far from
fluent as yet.
I would be particularly interested in the following topics:
Italian ethnography/ethnology
community and regional development
local/regional identities
history and memory (Austrian/Slovenian border, Ladins)
Italian social/cultural philosophy
