EurActiv presents the prototype of its new portal site.
During a well-attended, high-level conference of Friends of Europe on
a new Information and Communications Policy for the EU on 9 March,
EurActiv presented a first prototype of its future portal. This new
webservice will be the one-stop gateway to EU news, policy positions
of EU Actors and discussion forums on hot topics. With a completely
redesigned and much more user-friendly layout, EurActiv's EU affairs
coverage will be extended to new topics and several new services
will be added. The official launch of the portal is foreseen for
April. The exact date will be announced via our Update email and in
the EU press.

The Commission adopted a progress report on its eEurope initiative as
its key contribution to the forthcoming EU Lisbon Summit. The
initiative aims at making Europe a leader in the new information age
economy. -> Read the report and reactions to it in our Transparency
Focus (address above - see Fresh and Special section).
The Commission's White Paper on reform of its own services attracted
a lot of attention. Reform-minded Commission officials came up with
their own proposals.
-> Read their positions in our Transparency Focus (address above).
*ENLARGEMENT*

The Commission proposed to open negotiations on 5 to 8 chapters with
the second group of candidate countries. This should enable them to
catch up with the first group.
-> You can find the detail about the proposal in EurActiv's Focus on
Enlargement (address above - see Fresh and Special section). CEPS
comments on the cost of the EU enlargement to the east. CEPS argues
that the EU member states do not seem ready to openly address the
problem that their budgetary obligations will have to increase at the
moment of enlargement.
-> Read more about this in EurActiv's Focus on Enlargement (address
above).
