Subject: For moderation - Criteria for New Lists (fwd)

Hello
I've been asked by a listowner to clarify the criteria for accepting
funded (free) lists at Mailbase.
I have included below the points we work from. This is our initial
guide. The nature of Mailbase and the range of proposals we receive
does however mean that Mailbase will need to make a decision either by
precedent, experience or referral to JISC who provide our funding.
If you have any queries about new lists and the procedures please get
in touch with Robert Walker Tel: 0191 222 8214;
Funded Lists
To ensure the unique UK HE focus to the lists, high quality of
discussions and relevance to research/teaching, lists are vetted and
reviewed. The main criteria for establishing a new list and continuing
to support it are as follows:
The list should primarily benefit the UK higher education and research
community
The principal list owner should be employed by a UK higher education
institution, preferably with an 'ac.uk' style email address
There should be a significant percentage of list members from UK HE
and Research Councils
Mailbase lists should be directly related to research or teaching
within the UK HE community or support of these activities
Acceptance of new lists is dependent upon capacity being available on
the Mailbase Service
Mailbase does not currently establish lists for undergraduate
students, nor does it host lists for single institutions.
The national Mailbase Service is centrally funded to support higher
education teaching, learning and research. Use of centrally funded
lists can therefore not include clinical, operational or
administrative use by the NHS or other health sector staff
