According to the OED a fortalice was originally a fortress and now 'chiefly,
a small fort or outwork of fortification'

Subject: Funny word!
Does anyone know what a fortilice is, please? The context refers to someone
obtaining a licence to crenellate one so I infer it to mean a fortified
house.Sorry if this is the wrong forum for such a query but I don't have web
access.
