The ONS has gone over to a sectoral accounting framework, but
the traditional Keynesian National accounts are there too. They are
also changing this year to a moving base system for the constant
price (I.e. real) figures. This will make it more difficult for people
who want to update their exercises using GDP statistics. Needless
to say they will be incorporated in the next update of the Secos
Trends CD-ROM.
We (i.e. Statistics for Education) are currently preparing a new
book with ONS on "Essential Data Skills for Business and
Management". The book explains the national accounts changes
and will be published in September. We are also preparing an ONS
Database with data covering the range of the new A-level
Economics courses, and each year there will be an accompanying
resouce pack covering 5 or 6 current issues (case study/data
response activities). Check www.statsed.co.uk for information on
these.
Best wishes
Steve

Subject: Treatment of National income accounts in A level economics
From: "Richard Young" <[log in to unmask]>
To: "DG Econ-Business-Educators (E-mail)" <[log in to unmask]>
Call me paranoid but for those board which expect a treatment of
national
income accounts, how are colleagues coping with the change in
layout and
terminology?
"With effect from 24 September 1998 the UK national accounts
were
converted onto the European System of Accounts 1995 (ESA95).
This change
results in a number of changes to the terminology and
methodology used in
presenting and compiling the accounts. A short description of the
national
accounts is given in the introduction to the 1998 edition of United
Kingdom National Accounts, the ONS Blue Book."
I have not spotted any textbooks which have made the change... has anyone
generated classroom resources on this... or is there no need.
Regards
Richard
