With a history of over 225 years, Istanbul Technical University is the
oldest establishment of higher education in Turkey. ITU Department of
Industrial Product Design (est. 1993) is the youngest unit of the
university, and also the youngest product design department in the
country.
Languages of instruction at ITU are Turkish and English. The department
has BSc, MSc and PhD programmes, and is part of the Faculty of
Architecture located in the historical Taskisla building in Taksim, at
the heart of the city of Istanbul.
We would like to invite applications for the visiting lecturer position
for 2000-2001 academic term. This position is open for one or two
semesters in every year. Potential applicants can apply for one (fall or
spring) or both (fall and spring) semesters. The fall semester at ITU
begins at early October and ends in January. The spring semester begins
in mid of February and ends in June.
Responsibilities:
At undergraduate level: Tutoring in an entry level design studio
(Product Design III) in the fall semester and an intermediate level
studio (Product Design VI) in the spring semester.
At postgraduate level: Depending on the applicant's field of expertise
and/or interest, s/he is expected to contribute to the Department's
postgraduate programme, by participating in design seminars and/or
courses, one in each semester. In addition to these responsibilities,
applicants are expected to give two seminars on chosen topics of
industrial/product design, which will be open to a wide audience.
Compensation/Benefits:
In addition to a monthly salary, ITU provides free accommodation, a
furnished studio flat (if you are lucky enough, with a nice view of
Bosphorus!) at ITU's main campus in Maslak. That is a rapidly developing
financial district of the city, 30 minutes away from Central city and
Taskisla (the building where ID Dept. is located) by car under normal
traffic conditions. A free shuttle bus service is provided between the
Maslak campus and the ITU's city campuses in the mornings and evenings
during the semester.
Qualifications:
Master's in industrial design and five years experience in professional
design practice and/or teaching in English is required.
Ph.D. or equivalent degree and experience/interest in design research
are preferred.
Research/teaching experience in human factors and user research OR
experience in using/teaching computer aided design tools such as Alias
Wavefront, 3D Max are desirable.
