End Segregated Education:
The Disabled People's Movement for Inclusive Education
Young disabled people continue to be channelled into 'special needs'
education - segregated from their family, friends and local community.
Thousands of young disabled people are struggling to access mainstream,
inclusive education.
Supported by disabled people's organisations and individuals they could take
this struggle forward, strengthened.
Organisations of disabled people and disabled individuals are invited to
participate in this unique conference to:
* find out what inclusion means;
* share their experience and skills;
* unite to build the campaign to end enforced segregation; and to
* create a network of organisations and individuals equipped to support
young disabled people and their families.
The conference will provide the opportunity for individuals to participate
in different ways. As well as the more usual large and small group sessions,
there will be options for contributing through drama, one-to-one
interactions, interactive IT, and individual reflection and recording.
Every attempt is being made to make the event fully inclusive. We do not
wish any individual to be unable to attend because their access needs are
not met. Here are some of the facilities and services we will be making
available:
* Designated parking for disabled drivers and passengers
* Interactive computers and hand held tape recorders
* Sign language interpreters
* Lip speakers
* Note-takers
* Personal assistants
* Information points with accessible information
* Multi-media exhibitions
* Lunch and refreshments to meet individual needs and preferences
* Rest room
If there are any facilities or services that we have not listed but would
make it possible for YOU to attend and participate, please LET US KNOW.
The programme has been timed to reduce the need for participants to stay
overnight. However, if you need to stay over in order to attend, we may be
able to locate accessible and reasonably priced accommodation.
If you are going to find it difficult to attend because the cost to you
would be outside your normal expenditure and you are living on a low income.
Please apply to us for support.
