Anglo-Continental Literary Relations in the 16C
7-9 September 2000, Newcastle
The second international conference of the Tudor Symposium invites
proposals for papers on any aspect of this theme, e.g.: Tudor writers
on the Continent and vice versa; representations of Tudor England in
Continental texts and vice versa; studies in comparative literature:
translation, imitation, genre, style; and related topics such as
diplomacy, trade, religious movements. (It may be of interest that
the proceedings of the first conference will be published by Ashgate
as "The Anatomy of Tudor Literature" in 2000/1.)
The conference will take place at the University of Newcastle (UK)
7-9 September 2000. Proposals should be sent to the Convenor (see
below) by 1 June 2000. They should be about 200 words long; and the
paper should be calculated to last about 20 minutes.
Fee: £100 for the three days, including plentiful supplies of good
food and drink. Accommodation is not included, but comfortable rooms
on campus have been booked (£48 for the two nights).
*** Balassi Award. A bursary of £200 (to cover fees, accomodation,
and a contribution towards travel) is available to Hungarian students
writing a doctoral dissertation on any aspect of sixteenth-century
English literature. Proposals should arrive by 1 May 2000, with two
