================================================================
Welcome to the Biodiversity Mailbase
================================================================

This mailing list is run on behalf of the European Commissions BIOSTRESS Research
Project, Co-ordinated by Dr. Andreas Fangmeier at Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen,
Germany. It is intended to facilitate discussions between participants and the wider
scientific community.

The principle aim of BIOSTRESS are: 1. To investigate the role of tropospheric ozone as a
driver of shifts in biodiversity, 2. Provide a better understanding of the mechanisms
underlying changes in biodiversity caused by global change, 3. Quantify critical thresholds
or the loss of biodiversity concerning stress imposed by global change components.

The owner of this list is Colin Gillespie ([log in to unmask]), based at the
Department of Agricultural Science at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, a
member of the Air Pollution Research Group, currently working on the above EU project.
I have included our Lab's web page and aim to add additional wed
sites of participants and other relevant information as the mailbase
increases (please inform me by email any additional websites).

Thank you for joining, and we look forward to hearing from you.

================================================================
List Etiquette
================================================================
As a Mailbase user you MUST abide by the Mailbase Acceptable Use
Policy (http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/docs/aup.html)

There are also some general guidelines on using lists at
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/docs/guidelines.html

And here are some guidelines for the Biodiversity Mailbase list

- Do NOT send attachments to the list. Many people who do not use the
  same email program or word-processor software as you and therefore could
  have problems reading your attachments.

- If you have a promotional message, such as a conference
  announcement, a job advert or details of a training course, please
  send it to the listowner.

- Keep your message short and on-topic, and use a meaningful subject
  title. This will aid in retrieval of your message from the archive system
  and also help other members with their filing systems. If you do this
  people are more likely to read it.

- When replying to a message, quote part of the original message, so
  people can understand the context. But you don't have to quote the
  entire message. Please note 'the list is currently set in the REPLY-TO-
  LIST mode. This means that if you use a REPLY command on your
  local mail system, your message will go to everybody on the list-rather
  than just the individual whose message you are responding to. This
  option can be changed but I'll see how it goes initially.

================================================================
How to Email the List
================================================================
To send a message to everyone on the biodiversity mailbase list, email:

        [log in to unmask]

================================================================
How to Leave the List
================================================================
Send an email to [log in to unmask] with the message:

        leave biodiversity

If you have any problems, please contact the listowner.

================================================================
How to Join the List
================================================================
To join the biodiversity mailbase list (you may want to pass this information on to other
people), please send a message to [log in to unmask]
with this message:

        join biodiversity <firstname> <lastname>

================================================================
Contact the Listowner
================================================================
You can contact the listowner by sending a message to

        [log in to unmask]

Use this address if you have a problem leaving the list or sending
a message to the list, or any general question about the list.

================================================================
Problems!
================================================================

o Never send commands, or requests to join, or admin.
   queries, to [log in to unmask] - your problem will be
   broadcast to all our members!

o If your mail address changes, send a message to
   [log in to unmask]

o If something goes wrong - perhaps you get two copies of
   every message - contact the listowner
   [log in to unmask]

o If you are removed from the list this is usually because the
   listowner has received error reports saying that your email address
   was invalid. This might be caused by temporary problems,
   such as a server going down at your site.
