FIRST CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HANDHELD AND UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING (HUC2K)

OUTLINE
Ubiquitous personal, handheld and wearable technologies, coupled with
environment-based technologies, is set to transform our access to
information and computing. Artefacts in the physical world will
become computationally accessible, and our everyday environment will
become a powerful ubiquitous computing interface. The Second
International Symposium on Handheld and Ubiquitous Computing (huc2k)
will again bring together researchers and practitioners to explore
the links and synergies between personal and environment-based
technologies.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
HUC2k invites submissions in the following categories:
FULL PAPERS
12 A4 pages. Theoretical analysis, methodological contributions,
detailed descriptions of systems and prototypes, accounts of user
studies or commercial developments. Accepted papers will appear in
the symposium proceedings published in the Springer-Verlag Lecture
Notes in Computer Science series.
SHORT PAPERS
3 A4 pages. Position papers, descriptions of user studies or systems.
Accepted papers will be published in the journal Personal
Technologies volume 4, issue 3, which will be available at the
conference.
WORKSHOPS
1 A4 page proposal outlining title, topic and participants. Half-day
meetings where participants gather to discuss a topic in depth.
Workshops will be led by presenters who will organise contributions
by a limited number of participants. Workshops will take place on
Wednesday 27 September.
TUTORIALS
1 A4 page proposal outlining title, topic and participants. Half-
day meetings where presenters provide access to state-of-the-art
knowledge for participants supported by comprehensive tutorial notes.
Tutorials will take place on Wednesday 27 September.
DEMONSTRATIONS
The symposium has space for a limited number of demonstrations. These
should be discussed with the organisers at [log in to unmask]
FORMAT
Submissions should be provided as RDF files formatted in 12-point
typeface with an abstract, six keywords and consecutively-numbered
reference list.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS
The deadline for all submissions is 1 MAY 2000.
HOW TO SUBMIT

complete the on-line submission form.
REFEREEING
Rigorous refereeing of all submissions will be performed by an
international panel. Successful authors will be notified on 14 JUNE
2000.
FINAL SUBMISSIONS
Final submissions, in word/rtf format are due on 17 JULY.
REGISTRATION
Registration for huc2k is now available. Early registrations are due
by 1 AUGUST and attract a discount. ACM members can register at a
discounted rate. Visit the huc2k website and complete the interactive
registration form.
