ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER IN HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION AND/OR
COGNITIVE ENGINEERING
Swinburne Computer-Human Interaction Laboratory (SCHIL)
School of Information Technology
Swinburne University of Technology
Melbourne, Australia
The School of Information Technology at Swinburne University of Technology
seeks to appoint a person with a well-established and productive research
program in the area of human-computer interaction (HCI) and/or cognitive
engineering (CE) for a research and teaching position.
We seek a suitably qualified person at Level D (Associate Professor) or
Level C (Senior Lecturer). The eventual occupant of the position will
enhance the school's existing strengths in either or both of the HCI and CE
("HCI/CE") areas and will wish to be associated with the Swinburne Computer
Human Interaction Laboratory (SCHIL).
Amongst its resources, SCHIL has a state-of-the-art Usability Laboratory in
which a wide range of empirical and observational research in HCI/CE can be
conducted. There is an active cognitive engineering group within SCHIL
working in the domains of critical care medicine, air defence, power
generation, and emergency incident management.
The occupant of this position will already have an established track record
and a national and international reputation for research in HCI/CE. In
their appointment at Swinburne the occupant will continue to carry out
research, consulting and teaching of the highest quality in these areas.
The exact area of research within the general HCI/CE rubric is less
important than the quality, productivity, and programmatic nature of the
research.
The occupant will also be expected to take a leadership role in the
development of postgraduate education in HCI/CE within the School of
Information Technology. In addition, the occupant will be expected to teach
at the undergraduate level within the school in at least one technical area
of Information Technology outside HCI/CE.
The occupant will fit the following profile:
1. Bring to Swinburne a productive and original research program in an
important current area of HCI/CE
2. Maintain a good level of published output in respected, peer-reviewed
HCI/CE scientific journals.
3. Attract external competitive funding to resource an active research
program by making regular research proposals to suitable agencies and
entities.
4. Attract, support, and supervise a team of postgraduate research
students in HCI/CE
5. Contribute significantly to the development of postgraduate coursework
programs in HCI/CE.
6. Undertake undergraduate teaching assignments and subject development as
needed in HCI/CE and in at least one further IT area.
7. Contribute to the use and/or further development of the SCHIL Usability
Laboratory and Research Center.
8. Take part in the research life of SCHIL and the School of Information
Technology through the normal forms of collegial support and intellectual
exchange.
