WORKSHOP ANNONCEMENT
BCS Developing Countries Specialist Group
and
The Information for Development Forum
Subject: Developing countries and electronic commerce
Date/Time: 25th April, 2000. 2:00 - 5:00pm
Place: British Computer Society HQ, 11 Mansfield St.,
London W1
The Cabinet Office of the British Government has produced a report on
electronic commerce which has a one half line on the two thirds world.
The Secretary of State for International Development has been clear on her
support for globalisation. The Development White Paper specifies research
and knowledge as Britain's contribution to international development.
Following the Keystone for the Information Age conference this might be the
first workshop to look at the range of policy requirements and options to
ensure that developing countries are enabled to take advantage of the
electronic commerce delete hyperbole e-vent?
What are the responsibilities/ obligations of professional organisations
and who is to implement them?
The intention is that a report will follow the workshop.
There is no charge for attending the workshop but it is important
that attendees register their interest so that accomodation and
refreshments can be judged appropriately.
Please contact John Lindsay ([log in to unmask]) for further details
regarding the seminar/workshop, and to register your
intention to attend.
Those attending the workshop who plan to participate in the AGM
will be served with a light buffet at around 5pm.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
BCS Developing Countries Specialist Group
Date/Time: 25th April, 2000. 6:00 - 7:30pm
Place: British Computer Society HQ, 11 Mansfield St.,
London W1
The agenda for the AGM is being prepared and will be posted at a date
closer to the event. Items for inclusion on that agenda from group members
are most welcome.
One item which will definitely be a main point for discussion will be the
formation of a new committee. In particular we need a new Chair and
Treasurer for the group (as Crawford and Brian are unable to continue in
these roles). It would also be helpful to elect a Secretary, the absense
of which over the past 2-3 years has made the Chair's job quite difficult,
and at least 2 new committee members with time/energy to provide input into
the month-to-month operation of the group. Nominations can come from the
floor on the day, but if volunteers are not forthcoming then an emergency
item on the agenda may well be the future viability of the group.
If you are interested in joining a *working* committee and/or have any
other items to be considered on the agenda please forward them to Crawford
Revie.
A buffet will be available from 5pm subject to availability - please
register your intention to come for the buffet if you will not already be
at the workshop (see note above regarding Workshop).
Please contact Crawford Revie ([log in to unmask]) for further
details regarding the AGM - including any points you wish to be added to
the agenda - and to register your intention to attend.
