NEW JOURNAL ANNOUNCEMENT

REQUEST FOR PAPERS

REQUEST FOR BOOK REVIEWS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

PROGRESS IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

Progress in Development Studies will provide an international forum for the
review of development-oriented research and practice in
the social and environmental sciences. It will be launched in 2001, and will
publish major review articles, state-of-the art progress
reports and book reviews. It will be the fourth Progress journal published by
Arnold, joining Progress in Human Geography, Physical
Geography and Environmental Science.

The Editorial Board and Advisory Board reflect the strong multi-disciplinary
character of the journal and the field of development
studies. Professor Rob Potter (Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London
<[log in to unmask]>) is the Managing Editor. Dr Jean Besson (Anthropology,
Goldsmiths, University of London <[log in to unmask]>), Dr Tim Forsyth
(Institute of Development Studies / Kennedy School of Government, Harvard
University), Professor Barry Munslow (Politics, University of Liverpool <
[log in to unmask]>) and Professor David Sapsford (Economics, Lancaster University
<[log in to unmask]>) are the Joint Editors.

As many of you know, the 'Progress' series of journals specialize in publishing
review articles of around 5-8,000 words on broad topics of relevance to current
theoretical and policy debates, and shorter 'progress reports' of around 2-3,000
words on specific themes, policy issues, or organizations. Typical readers
include academics, policymakers and high-school teachers.

The Editors are currently commissioning progress reports and main articles.
Please let us know if you have anything you may want to submit (see email
addresses of editors for specific subject areas). Similarly, please look at the
list of books below and let ME know if you would like to review any of them.
Reviews are usually about 1,000 words long, and reviewers get to keep the book.
Please let me know your top FOUR choices for books (in order), and I shall do my
best to get your first choice to you. Also, let me know if there is another
book (relevant to development) that is not on the list but that you may want me
to order for you (books must be published from 1999). More books will be added
to this list soon.

The following books will be of interest to anyone studying   DEVELOPMENT;
ECONOMICS (inc. globalization); NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL POLITICS (inc.
democratization and governance); GENDER; ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY; SOCIAL
POLICY; POST-SOCIALIST TRANSITION; CULTURAL CHANGE; POPULATION; HEALTH; and
GEOGRAPHY.
