I'm almost ashamed to admit that I have actually just watched this. I took
extra special notice to see if there was any mention of a medical advisor
in the credits, but was not surprised/relieved to see no mention.
For those who are not up to speed ;-) Only a few years after a plane crash
on this small "Yorkshire" village a lorry has overturned onto a minibus
carrying half the village on a shopping trip. Typical significant incident
scenario for the Emergency Services, the sort of thing that is regularly
seen in training exercises.
I was hoping for a demonstration of 999 Service prowess. However, the
Police have been shown as inconsequential and obtuse. The Fire Service
actually come across quite well. The Ambulance Service ... Oh ... my ...
GOD!!!!!
It started with a casualty being carried out of the wreckage suspended by
the arms from two ambulance rescuers. The crowning glory has been a patient
being carried unrestrained on a spinal board without a collar or oxygen
and being allowed to sit up. The "paramedic" could only manage a "We better
get you to hospital to get that fractured tibia seen to"!
Perhaps it's just me. These dramas use this type of incident to cull the
cast of soaps. In real life I would expect the attrition rate to be higher
from the treatment than the injuries received !
Where do they get their medical advice??????????? I can't believe that any
pre-hospital doctor or Ambulance Officer worth their salt was involved. I
would be downgrading and sending for retraining all health care personnel
involved!
Rant over. My blood pressure is starting to settle. More entertainment to
follow later in the week. And I don't usually watch this sort of rubbish
(HONEST !!)
