Although not being a medical person I do have vague recollections from
recent Computer trade press publications, Computer Weekly I believe, that
Read codes were being dropped as they are deemed to be insufficiently
precise, but that a more precise set of 'Clinical Terms' defined in there
place. This should not be taken as absolute since this is from memory after
reading an article a few months back. The slant of the article would be
towards the database implementation of the scheme and so may be incomplete.
I would think that if the website www.computerweekly.com was visited and a
search made for Read codes then the article could be found.

Hi Rowley
That is an interesting point - the word that I have had from the NHS
Information Authority is that they or 'Clinical Terms' are here to stay
Having said that I have recently heard from another source that they are
being dropped - does anyone have any more information on this?
Cheers
