John
I echo your sentiments. I am a single handed Consultant in A & E and last
summer are dept was nearly shut down. Patients would have had to travel 18
miles in either direction, we see 50,000 new cases a year. We have not been
able to recruit a second consultant and staff-grades again are very
difficult get.
I think there is a conspiracy and the views of the patients are not
considered.
I worked as a consultant in a town in West Yorkshire of a similar size to
the one you live in and there the A & E dept is being downgraded. It was
based on one of the busiest junctions of the
A1(M) and the M62 and we managed horendous motorway smashes where you could
see you hand in front of your face because of the dense fog.
I speak with 12 years experience as a consultant and it is all very sad.
Alas some of the SpR's do not want to go to the smaller units so that if I
pop my clogs my job will be difficult to fill.
Kind regards
Danny McGeehan
