There is a transarterial approach (it works nicely). As long as you dont
use a white needle, the artery doesn't mind!
As for not getting the radial nerve, it is true that the radial and
musculocutaneous nerves are commonly not blocked. In that case, all you
need to do is a haematoma block (as per my previous posting), or block
the radial nerve at the elbow.
What the axillary nerve block does offer is profound background
analgesia. Quite why it does so with incomplete blocks is a little
beyond me. Any ideas?
