A few years ago for my sins i was asked to help a film company produce
footage for a party political broadcast. The senario was a cyclist versus a
car, non fatal injuries, fractures grazing and bruising.
We set about arriving on scene, parking safely, attending patient, deploying
equipment and generally showing how a text book removal would be undertaken.
They were not happy with that, they wanted a quick swoop and scoop. It ended
up as about four scenes that showed arrival, patient, loading and away. No
more than 15 seconds worth. No indication of time and trouble involved to
provide safe removal.
It is quite within the bounds that the attending services were shunted
around, posed, and shunted off, which is then edited to portray what the
soap, documentary, film makers want to show. Unless you can get cart blanche
up front viewing and overall input into what is actually broadcast, sadly we
will continue to see what others expect to see. Whilst you can try to show
what the real world can be like, they pay the costs.
