Invite said DC down and ask him to take a written statement from you, where
he writes and asks the questions, then records you reply verbatim. If he
wants to cover any arrears of the case, he'll have to write each question
down and your reply.
Insist on a copy of YOUR statement, it is yours. Read it thoroughly and if
necessary ask that a statement be added at the end to clarify certain
arrears. Also initial any changes yourself, and sign at the end of any open
paragraph, this will ensure that nothing can be added after he has left.
The barest statement should identify who you are, your qualifications, the
day, date, time and place of the incident, what you saw, said and did. Also
who else attended and If the patient said anything to you, try and quote
verbatim if you can.
