A little harsh, me thinks!
Bear in mind that the viewing figures support the fact that soaps are
watched by a large proportion of us (12.86 million viewers for week 14-20
February), which equates to a lot of people without a remote interest in
reality! The sad fact is that this is the window through which the world
sees us and derives their expectations. Only this evening, I had a 15 yr old
RTA patient tell me that she understood everything that I was doing as she
watches "Casualty". She wasn't quite so chuffed when I mentioned that I was
the equivalent of the "Patrick Spiller" character!
There's no doubt, that particular episode of Emmerdale was entertaining!
However, what if someone (after watching it) witnesses a similar RTA and
rushes into the wreckage like "that bloke off Blue Peter did" and endangers
themselves, or drags someone out as they did with Seth?
Maybe Darren's comments about the accuracy of the programme aren't quite so
flippant when viewed in this light!
Andy

I think it takes great skill to avoid fact so successfullky when making
medical drama. You can practise this skill on quite a number of programs. I
refuse, generally, to watch in my spare time what is accepted on TV as what
I do at work. Judging by certain peri-medical magazines, e.g. BMA News
Review, you can leave that to the anesthetists, who seem to love writing TV
critiques.
P.S. The TV-trash you are watching is not actually intended for anyone who
has the remotest interest in reality!
