Hello everyone.
I'd like to tell every one that I returned from Haiti safe and sound, it was
one of the most wonderful, educational, physically exhausting and emotionally
touching experience I have ever came across. In case if any one asking, I
went to Haiti to open/restart and Physio clinic in a children school/hospital
in the name of Ecole St. Vincent, in Port-au-Prince as a volunteer work. It
was a great pleasure to provide such a service I wanted to stay longer, my
brain was swarming with ideas and planes. I taught few English classes, and
learned French Creole, I experienced the simplicity of life and the extreme
poverty and where the concept of physiotherapy is almost non-existing.
Children with a variety of illnesses from acute to chronic, arrived at the
doors of the potential clinic seeking advice/help of some kind. I was
overwhelmed at the beginning, and then I realized that I spent an average of
12 - 15 hours a day treating, splinting, educating kids and the families with
the help of the interpreter. That was the only time in my life I wished the
day to be longer than 24 hours.
I came across rare paediatric disease I've never heard of, therefore I need
to do some studying I guess.
I 'll post some pictures online as soon as I get them ready, a prosthetist
who traveled with me put together several video tapes, hopefully we'll edit
one to be a documentary.
I'll share other emails for more details about the trip.
Muna
