I have had a look in the London Directories in Mile End Reference Libaray
(east London) and found the following details;
In 1837 there is a publican Alexander Thornton listed at the Bricklayers
Arms, New North Road, Hoxton (Robsons) but nothing in a 1835 edition
although this is somewhat slimmer and may not be comprehensive.
Pigot's directory (1839) lists Alexander Thornton at the Bricklayers Arms,
4 Stephen's Place, New North Road.
The Post Office directories between 1843 and 1848 list him but Stephen's
Place in no longer called that, instead it is 8 Upper Dorchester Place,
Hoxton. The next directory available is 1855 and there is no mention of
Alexander Thornton.
I will check about the wharf tomorrow lunch hour.
Hope this is of use
Stuart
