Papers are invited for the 5th International Conference on
The Social Context of Death, Dying and Disposal (DDD2000)
to be held at Goldsmiths College, University of London, London
England 7-10 September 2000
Death, Dying and Disposal is a multi-disciplinary residential
conference for historians, sociologists, psychologists,
archaeologists, anthropologists, artists, art and architectural
historians, those in the legal professions, medical and health
practitioners, palliative care workers, bereavement counsellors, and
death practitioners.
As with previous conferences papers are invited on ANY SUBJECT
pertinent to Death, Dying or Disposal, however, for the year 2000
conference, papers which address the following themes will be
particularly welcomed:
- DEATH AND DYING IN THE METROPOLIS
- ABORTION, MISCARRIAGE AND NEONATAL DEATH
- MEDIA AND VISUAL CULTURES OF DEATH
Papers will be of 20 minutes duration, with additional time allowed
for discussion. Please send an outline of your proposed
contribution to the address given below. All proposals should reach
the conference organizer by 31 March 2000.
Submissions should be in the following format:
Title of paper
Your name (and institution)
An abstract of 250 words
3-4 Bibliographic references (relevant to the paper)
Full contact details
Offers of poster displays or other forms of communications are also
welcomed.
(If possible please submit proposals by email attachment using MS-
Word software or in a txt format).
