Do we really need to collectively agree a new name for SMRs? Surely, if a local authority wish to re-name an SMR to HER/HEIR/LEIMS/CRMs or any other name, they are perfectly entitled to. Does it matter that SMRs may be called something slightly different in different parts of the country? I would say that it does not. However, if we are to rename SMRs why don't we be a bit more radical (and interesting) than to pick yet another stuffy, dry & meaningless acronym (that is outside of the SMR world. Can we even still call it the SMR world?). A name that suggests something exciting and interesting woiuldn't come amiss - how about something like 'Discovery'?
A point to consider is that although the term SMR is not necessarily accurate, it is a well known and also, it is only a name. Whilst this fact shouldn't stop us changing names if we wish, we may ultimately cause confusion to our users if we insist on changes that to many people may appear to be an excercise in semantics. It would do us all good to remember the long and tedious debate about changing the name of the IFA which came to absolutely nothing largely because, although the name was not strictly accurate, it was well known.
Having said that if we are to change acronyms I would agree with David Evans' suggestion.
