Thanks for that but the fact remains that mapinfo will still create a
location based on a 12 figure grid reference irrespective of whether I give
its precision as 1km or 100m.

'exegesis' has a field in which you can enter the precision in metres of the
grid reference. In the case of your coin hoard the precision would be 1km!

How are you all dealing with marginal grid referencing in Exegesis
E.g. Coin Hoard ST65 Marginal, map sheet ST 65NE which the migration has
translated to ST60005000 somehow. I can just delete the grid reference from
the record but how do you indicate the record's status subsequently?
Any thoughts?
