Thank you Bill Kinsey for the additional comments on the hazards of LDC
connection to international internet systems.
Econ-soc-devt runs a policy of banning file attachments. If any
subscribers wish to offer material in computer file form they should
indicate an address that people can contact in order to request a copy
to be sent direct - not through the discussion list.
There are two other advantages of the rtf format which Bill Kinsey does
not mention:
1) The files are much smaller and therefore take much less time to
transfer - saving telephone line time for those with modems, and saving
nail-biting operator time.
2) I understand that rtf files do not act as hosts to viruses, so that
the chances of transferring viruses along with the files are reduced.
I hope that this exchange is useful.
