Announcing a new book, one of the very few books concerning the experiences
of Australian women with disabilities. It is narrative rather than
analytical, but a useful source of information about our situation.
Writings for the book came from (1) an invitation to contribute sent to all
members of a state Victorian Women with Disabilities Network, (2) an
advertisement in the national Women With Disabilities Australia newsletter,
and (3) participants in a free series of writing workshops sponsored by the
Victorian Women with Disabilities Network.
Flyer as follows
'Oyster Grit' is a collection of writings by Australian women with
disabilities. Each woman has written about aspects of her life
experience, revealing extraordinary abilities of endurance, humour, and
creativity.
Experiences, some spanning many years, are described with laconic humour
and understatement.
Women with disabilities are often ignored in histories and accounts of the
struggle for Australian disability rights. 'Oyster Grit' is a fascinating
account of how diverse women have experienced their lives.

This book is a valuable resource for anyone who wishes to broaden their
knowledge of women, people with disabilities, and the ways women with
disabilities have been treated by our society.
Women's studies, welfare and disability studies, students will learn much
from these writers.
Cost. $A12.00 plus $A4.00 postage
