Dear Janet:
I'm remiss in touching base with you re: the impact of your paper on my
students in both language acquisition and comparative ed courses that I
teach. They were dazzled by the differences in rhetorical style and
language usage by comparing a quality paper from the U.K. vs a quality
paper from the U.S. (please note that the "vs." should not connote an
adversarial relationship!). Using an example of languages/cultures
which are so close made many issues that they had been struggling with
much more clear.
I do hope that everything is working out for you, both personally and
professionally. I wish that I could offer something for your inquiry
this weekend re: ld issues, but I'm concerned that anything that I
might offer would be dipped in U.S. conceptualization!
I have a small request, if you have either the time or energy. I have
an excellent student, Michele, who is working on a paper comparing U.K.
teacher training with that in the U.S. Although she has done (and so
have I!) Net research on this issue, we have failed to find any listserv
for teachers or teacher-trainers in the U.K. She would really like to
(?She is really keen to?) contact some individual teachers for feedback
on teacher training. If you have any listserv addresses, could you
please forward them to either me or Michele, whose address is:

All the best,
