CALL FOR PAPERS
At the IGU Population and Environment Commission's meeting during the
International Geographical Congress in Seoul between 14 and 18 August
2000 there will be a session devoted to papers focusing on issues
related to migration and environmental transformation (including the
built environment).
Possible themes include:
"Migration and environmental extremes" (including papers on
environmental "refugees");
"Migration and the built environment" (including papers on cultural and
social impacts of immigration in Pacific rim cities);
"Migration and leisure environments" (including papers on the impacts of
migration on environments used for recreation and leisure at national,
regional and local levels (including round the home));
"Migration and rural environments" (including papers on rural
depopulation and repopulation and the impacts of temporary as well as
long-term migration on the countryside);
"Temporary migration and transitory homes" (including papers on
migration of skilled and semi-skilled migrants into urban and rural
areas and their impacts on residential environments).
This session is being convened by Professor Richard Bedford of the
Department of Geography, University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand.
Papers dealing with aspects of migration and environmental
transformation in countries in the Asia-Pacific region are especially
welcome.
