Department of Geography, University of Wales Swansea
Applications are invited for the following vacancies in Human
Geography at the University of Wales Swansea. The Department has a
total commitment to excellence in research (RAE Grade 4) and teaching
(TQA "Excellent") and is working actively towards improving its grade
in RAE 2001.
*Chair of Human Geography*
This is a newly created post primarily intended to add to the
research strength of the department. Teaching duties will be limited
to one Level 3 option course and some tutorials. There will be
minimal administrative duties. A Research Assistantship, funded by
the University, will be attached to the Chair for 2 years.
Applicants should have an established international research
reputation and an ability to attract significant research funding.

*Lecturer in Human Geography*
The Department has two research groups in Human Geography: Urban
Change and Policy; and Geographies of Identity and Social Exclusion.
Applications are invited from candidates with a strong research
record who can make a significant contribution to one of these
groups. The appointment will be on Grade A or Grade B of the
Lecturer scale.

The Swansea Graduate School
*PhD/MPhil Studentships in Swansea*
Up to 10 Full Studentships, covering tuition fees and maintenance
grant (tenable for up to three years full-time study for the
MPhil/PhD) are available. The University is also making some 40
full-time Fees-Only Bursaries available (the award covers the UK
home tuition fee). The awards are aimed at good honours graduates
intending to commence research studies in September/October 2000,
although some Fees-Only Bursaries are available immediately.
