Call for papers: Journal of Educational Media
Special Issue: Equality of Access to Education through Appropriate Media
Introduction
Equality of access to education for disadvantaged groups and particularly
access to education of a high quality is a perennial issue. Problems of
access may be due to a variety of causes including physical or sensory
disability, gender, ethnicity, or social or geographical situation.
Whatever its origins, inequality of educational opportunity is, or should
be, a major issue for educational providers of all kinds.
As the new media, including the WWW, Information and Communication
Technologies and digital broadcasting become increasingly prevalent in
education, there is the opportunity both for enhanced access for some
learners and for new or further barriers for others.
This issue of the Journal of Educational Media is devoted to advancing the
effective use of traditional and innovative educational media to combat
inequality of access to high quality educational experience and we welcome
papers which address this issue from a theoretical or empirical viewpoint.
Articles
The editors would be pleased to receive articles relating to all aspects of
equality of access to education through different media including:
- alternative access to mainstream media for learners with disabilities
- use of innovative technologies, such as virtual reality, to enhance
access to education for disadvantaged groups
-analyses of sources of problems of inequality of access and solutions to
these problems
Deadline for receipt of full papers: April 14th 2000
