Correct. Page 24 of the Way Ahead 1998 "This would provide a consultant-led
service".
Of course at the time of writing even these targets seemed ambitious with so
many vacancies around.
To recommend higher numbers then could have seemed a bit ridiculous.
With the numbers recommended it was important to point out that this could only
give a consultant-led service so that trusts did not expect too much from
Consultants.

Perhaps he was putting forward his own vision of the future.
It is quite appropriate for our Faculty President to do so. He must now inform
all Fellows and Members of his views and seek support for them.
I heard that there were plans for another series of National meetings like the
BAEM/FAEM meeting of last June.
I think that what is needed is for the two organisations to publish an
"options" paper for debate and follow this with a series of meetings.
