Italy and the Americas

with the Department of European Languages, Literatures and Cultures of
SUNY-Stony Brook, and The Lower East Side Tenement Museum

This is a call for papers, electronic symposia, performances and exhibition
series that examine Italian immigration to the Americas and international
immigration to Italy. We are especially interested in presentations that explore
the art created by immigrants and the representation of immigration in the arts
and communication media.
We are looking for presentations/performances of theories and analyses in:
Arts: painting, sculpture, music, radio, television, film, theater, performance
Design: architecture, fashion,
Humanities: History, Religion, Languages, Literature, Philosophy,
Social Sciences: Anthropology, Folklore, Sociology, Psychology, Political
Science
Interdisciplinary presentations are encouraged
Talks and performances will be limited to 20 minutes (no more than 10 pages
double spaced if a paper is read). This limit will be strictly enforced.
The Center for Italian Studies will cover room and board of speakers.
One page proposals and a brief c.v. should be sent by May 1, 1999 to:
