I think the very ease with which we draw the line between work and play
is of interest. What about people who sing/chant while rhythmically
pounding grain? What about the checkout girl at the grocery store who
pretends to be a psychic for the entertainment of her customers (this
really happened to me last week)?
An idea that I often explore with my students is the idea that work and
play are opposites. Work is not fun. Play is not productive.
