Postgraduate Research Studentships (Three)
The School of Sociology and Social Policy invites applications for three
University funded research studentships. Information about the
research interests of the staff in the School is available on the WWW at:

the areas of both social policy and sociology.
The School is recognised by the ESRC as a Mode A outlet for full and
part-time research studentships and has an excellent success rate in
recent ESRC competitions (70% from 10 applications in 1999. Successful
candidates will be expected to develop proposals for the 2000 ESRC
Research Studentship competition. University scholarships are intended
to provide an alternative source of funding where applications to ESRC
are unsuccessful.
Candidates should possess, or expect to obtain, a good first degree
and/or a relevant Master’s degree and should normally be HEU (Home or
European Union) students. These studentships are available for up to
three years, from October 2000, and will include payment of MPhil/PhD
fees and a maintenance grant (currently £6,620 per annum).

page), a brief research proposal (approximately two A4 pages) and the
