The Women and Social Policy group and the Comparative Social Policy group of
the SPA are holding a joint study day on the theme ‘WOMEN, RISK AND
SOCIAL POLICY: international and social comparisons’ at the London School
of Economic, London, UK on Saturday 4 March 2000.
Speakers and topics confirmed are:
Elisabetta Ruspini, University of Padova – The dynamics of women’s
poverty in international perspective
Sigrid Leitner, University of Goettingen – Gendered dimensions of income
inequality in old age in comparative perspective: the USA and Europe
Sue Harkness, University of Surrey – The family gap in pay: comparative
perspectives
Arthur Gould, University of Loughborough – Making the punter pay: recent
developments in legislation on prostitution in Sweden
Further speakers are in the process of being confirmed, and fuller details
including a timetable will be circulated shortly.
The cost of attending the Study Day is 10 pounds for the unwaged and students,
15 pounds others. This fee includes registration for the study day, and a
buffet lunch and coffee/tea during the day.
