When you apply this to your urticaria theory, this would seem to be a
different mode of use to that of trying to improve the healing time for soft
tissue injuries.
With the results you have for urticaria, it appears that maybe the block of
the itching for a short period of time works similarly to the pain gate
theory (as with use of TENS),
ie. the new heat/cold sensation reaching patient awareness before the
itching sensation and thus "blocking" the gate to the itching. It's
probably the actual alternation between these two states that is the
important aspect of the effect - in other words, not giving the system time
to accommodate and allow the itching sensation to get through. This would
be similar to the modified or burst modes of TENS when the current CHANGES
and thus not allows the body to accommodate and make the TENS pulses
ineffective.
