JISC Circular 5/99 closed at 5 pm on Monday, 24 January. I thought you
might be interested in an idea of the numbers of bids received. The totals
are right, but the allocation by Programme Area is a little arbitrary, as
some proposals ticked two boxes, and we had to make a choice on the fly!
Programme Area A: DNER enhancement, attracted 39 bids totalling 9.9
million pounds. There were 24 different lead institutions, including all 4
countries of the UK.
Programme Area B: Learning and teaching programme, attracted 95 bids
totalling 23.9 million pounds. There were about 47 different lead
institutions, again including all 4 countries of the UK.
Programme Area C: Evaluation, attracted 3 bids totalling just over 800,000
pounds, all from England.
The total overall then is 137 proposals, and 34.7 million pounds! Thank
you all for your enthusaiastic response. Now begins the difficult task of
selection for funding.
Each bid has now been allocated to at least 5 markers, and they have been
despatched for assessment. In the next few days, we will be trying to work
out what further specialist assessments might be appropriate for some
bids. It is possible that some funding decisions may be taken at the March
JCEI meeting, although the May meeting is more likely. Some decisions may
be resolved at a date beyond this.
