Report on the Social Work Research Association Executive Meeting
to be presented to the 
JUC/SWEC Meeting on 6th January 2000


The SWRA executive meeting was held 1st November 1999 at University of 
Southampton.
(note - Jeremy Kearney attended as SWEC representative in succession to 
Joan Orme.)

The main discussion at the meeting concerned the focus of SWRA activity. 
A number of areas were identified:

Conference  - it was agreed to hold a conference in March 2001, 
possibly focussing on evidence-based practice and/or on agency/research links.

Newsletter - this to be developed as an essential means of updating SWRA 
members and promoting SWRA to non-members

Publications - possibility of developing SWRA/Venture Press link. 
One idea was for a publication to focus on Post-graduate research.
Report from Malcolm Payne that SWRA members could gain a discount on UEA 
monographs.

SWRA Awards - it was agreed to explore further the plan to create SWRA 
awards for best research proposals on work that will make a difference to 
service users.  One or two awards in the region of 1000 pounds  (possibly in 
conjunction with Community Care). Initially to be awards for the Millennium, 
but if successful could be an annual event.  

Executive Posts.

Bob Broad was elected Chair at the AGM. Mike Fisher has moved from 
Secretary to Treasurer and Jeremy Kearney has taken on the post of Secretary. 
Other positions to be confirmed with people who were not present at the meeting.
The meeting felt it was important to try and co-opt a post-graduate 
student as a member of the executive and Mike Fisher agreed to seek possible 
nominees at the ESRC Warwick seminar.
