Folks,
I would like to extend a warm welcome to Jose Borbinha as the newest member
of the Dublin Core Advisory Committee. Jose will assume the position of
co-chair of the DC in Multiple Languages Interest Group, giving Tom Baker,
current chair and DC Executive Committee member, a welcome hand in
developing this critical dimension of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative.
Jose Luis Borbinha is the Director for Innovation and Development of the
National Library of Portugal. He is also an invited researcher at INESC
(Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering), and a lecturer at IST
(Technical Superior Institute of the Lisbon Technical University). He has a
background in electrical engineering and computer science, and is involved
in national and international activities related to digital libraries.
In Portugal, he is a member of the Digital Libraries Working Group of RUBI
Network of Portuguese University Libraries) and of the Digital Libraries
Working Group of ERCIM (European Research Consortium for Informatics and
Mathematics). Previous activities on behalf of the EU include his
participation on a joint EU/NSF study team that helped to establish
recommendations for a common research agenda for metadata research in Europe
and North America.
Jose is also leading a team of representatives from computer science, the
national library, and the national archives studying the standardization of
DC-Portuguese as a national standard.
Welcome, Jose!
