I received messages informing me that, contrary to what I say, the Gibbs paradox IS
discussed in textbooks and is even regarded as trivial. "Trivial" is perhaps an
underestimation - see http://www.mdpi.org/entropy/entropyweb/gibbs-paradox.htm
Anyway, instead of declaring the paradox trivial or just abandoning the traditional
ideal gas model in the introduction of the statistical entropy (as Atkins did) we
can continue using this model, see how the Gibbs paradox appears, then resolve it
in the traditional way and finally see whether the new results are not absurd in
some sense. Some have invited me to do this and I think it would be very
instructive - it could be done at a textbook level. On the other hand, there are
others who ask me to stop any activity. I disagree with the latter so in my next
messages I am going to develop the problem from the beginning to the end, without
ignoring any dark corner.
Best regards,
Pentcho Valev
