Home Oriented Informatics and Telematics
HOIT 2000
Wolverhampton University 28 - 30 June 2000
see http://hoit2000.scit.wlv.ac.uk/ for details
IFIP working group 13.2 (Methodologies for Interactive Systems Design) is
joining with IFIP working group 9.3 (Home Oriented Information Technologies)
for a special track at the HOIT 2000 conference on the HCI of Home Oriented
Technologies.
The huge up take of IT in the home through devices such as Web TV, smart
fridges, e-mail phones and of course mobile technologies will have a dramatic
impact on people previously unexposed to IT. One major issue is that all HCI
methods and most concepts have been developed in a business context. To what
extent can and will these methods transfer to a domestic setting?
Papers dealing with any aspects of household technology-human interaction
are welcomed. Areas of interest include but are not restricted to:
Technological impact on the boundaries of household
Dealing with the inherent complexity of household devices
Design methods for household technologies
Participative design in the household
Interaction devices in the home - remote controls, speech input and output,
novel I/O
Branding and HCI; the conflict between image and usability.
Due to a number of problems it has been necessary to extend the deadline for
papers to the HOIT2000 conference. These should be sent to
[log in to unmask] by January 24th, 2000.
Informal enquireies can be sent to David Benyon, [log in to unmask]
