First of all, take a Valium. Both of you.
Second. Unlike this message, some of us are continuing to be accidentally
careless, by REPLYing to messages about this virus. Some of the original
messages, which are enclosed with the reply, still contain the virus!
Third. As many have said... The whole idea of having everyone you know
listed on your browser is an open invitation to viruses. Having no such list
limits the damage to one's own computer, which is kinder to your friends...
And, before you complain, please note that it is easy to type in the
occasional e-mail address when sending e-mails. I have a Notepad file on my
"desktop" with my address list, from which I easily cut and paste difficult
addresses. The file contains a few "group" addresses for my occasional
group-mails. MS Word will also handle this well.
Fourth. As someone else who did not recognise "Leo"... Please do remember
that many viruses are sent by "clowns" who are paid good money for this by
the producers of anti-virus software and by all those who make a living
supplying us with expertise and software to replace crashed systems...
Fifth. Use Hotmail - it virus-proofs many files with Mcafee. It also does
not automatically open the first message like outlook express does, only
displays a list of messages for the user to open if safe...
Sixth. Use a "bouncer" site... Whenever you see a message you are suspicious
and do not know whether to open it or not, you forward it unopened to a site
which has a strong security system (sorry - you'll have to find your own,
but some big IT companies are good places to start). Their system will
automatically reject it and return a virus warning if it is suspect.
Seventh. Or you can always fork out the dough and purchase a good
virus-checker...
