Angela,
Recently, there has been a whole slew of new work on SLI. The two
most basic references would have to be:
Leonard, Laurence B. 1998. Children with Specific Language
Impairment. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press.
Bishop, Dorothy V.M. 1997. Uncommon Understanding: Development
and Disorders of Language Comprehension in Children. Hove:
Psychology Press.
Both of these books give general overviews of SLI. Leonard (1998)
gives absolutely tons of references; Bishop is perhaps a bit more
student-friendly.
In any event, the University of Kentucky should own the following
CD-ROM databases:
Psychlit
LLBA
Just type in the keywords, and see what you find. You might
also consider consulting the Medline and MLA databases. Even
http://www.alltheweb.com/ and http://www.google.com/ might
help.
BTW, I think I know the answer to your research assignment. ;)
(Hint: Check into the work of Paula Tallal.)
Hope this helps,
Joe
