A long time ago, in the early Pleistocene Era, there used to be a thing
called AC/DC ... <URL:http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue3/acdc/intro.html>.
Dave has been trying to get JISC to cough up some money for an
updated version of this, with less chewing gum and sticky tape and
more kick-ass hardware.
Nowadays you can do "ac.uk" domain restrictions in some search
engines, e.g. AltaVista, but we've already heard about the limitations
on stuff indexed this way.
There is also something called HERO (formerly the UK HE Mall) ...
<URL:http://www.hefce.ac.uk/partners/Mall/>, which might conceivably
end up as www.ac.uk, if you see what I mean. Shudders optional ;-)
Cheers,
Martin
