CENTRE FOR TRANSPORT STUDIES
DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICINE
Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates for a Research
Studentship supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research
Council (EPSRC) to undertake research into the analysis and modelling of
travel behaviour. The studentship is of 3 years duration and will be at
standard EPSRC rates, with the possibility of additional financial support
depending on the topic and candidate. To be eligible for the full award,
candidates must have a relevant connection to the UK (e.g., have been
resident in the UK for at least the past 3 years, and for a purpose other
than full time education).
The area of work would suit an applicant with a strong numerate or
computing background, and with an interest in applying these skills to policy
research and behavioural issues.
The research area is broadly defined, but a number of potential topics of
research are suggested. These include:
* The relationship between daily travel behaviour and exposure to
environmental hazards.
* Dynamic modelling of car acquisition, disposal and use
* The impacts of transport system reliability on travel demand.
* Modelling attrition and non-response in travel behaviour data.
* Applications of Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques to the modelling
of travel demand
* Applications of agent-based simulation technologies in travel demand
modelling
* Long term impacts on travel demand of demographic change (e.g., aging
population).
Informal enquiries regarding opportunities in related research areas are
also welcome.
Applications including CV and the names and addresses (including fax and E-
mail, if possible) of two referees should be submitted as soon as possible to:
